Listen closely
It’s amazing how lyrics, together with music can transform itself into something that you can relate to or is on your mind. As I was listening to some music earlier, I was able to relate some of the lyrics I was listening to the current economic crisis.
Why do you like playing around with
My narrow scope of reality
I can feel it all start slipping
I think I’m breaking down
See but I don’t get it
Don’t you think maybe we could put it on credit
Don’t you think it can take control when I don’t let it
I get stupified
From Disturbed - Stupify.
I’m relatively certain that Disturbed did not intend to portray the typical American consumer who listens to the mainstream media and is going through economic difficulties in their music. Regardless, I know that music can has the tremendous power to heal, motivate, and educate people. I’m curious to see if I’ll relate other lyrics in songs to our times. I’ll keep you posted.
Update
Found another great song with lyrics along the same theme.
Cause it’s a bitter sweet symphony this life…
Trying to make ends meet, you’re a slave to the money then you die.
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down…
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.
No change, I can’t change, I can’t change, I can’t change,
but I’m here in my mold, I am here in my mold.
But I’m a million different people from one day to the next…
I can’t change my mold, no,no,no,no,no,no,no
Well I’ve never prayed,
But tonight I’m on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now.
